Gymnasium Banja Luka (Serbian: Gimnazija Banja Luka, Cyrillic: Гимназија Бања Лука) is the oldest high school in Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina situated in city center area of Banja Luka. It was founded on October 4 1895 by Austro-Hungarian government and named ,,The Big Real. The school offers international and national study programmes.
Gimnazija Banja Luka is nowadays attended by approximately 1300 students and employs more tham 100 staff members. Annually, about 300 students enroll for national and 10-15 for international programme. It is considered to be one of the most demanding and therefore prestigious high schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
School teaches by RS Matura programme and, as of 2006, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme. Like most of the high schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina Matura programme takes 4 years (ages 15–19). Students can choose among 4 different fields of curriculum focus: General, linguistics and social sciences, informatics and mathematics.
From its founding on October 4, 1895, until today, the Gymnasium has had only two aim houses: the Big Real building, and today's object in the street Zmaj Jovina, built after major earthquake in 1969.
